WIPE Berlin comes to Athens
There are film festivals, and then there are things that happen because somebody had the bad idea of putting a bunch of amateur filmmakers, comedians, musicians and other suspicious characters in the same place and giving them a microphone.
Expect an international collision of amateur cinema, with films from Greece and all over the world thrown into the same beautiful mess. No red carpets, no solemn industry handshakes, no desperate attempts to look important. Just films made by people who picked up a camera and decided to see what would happen.
The evening will be accompanied by stand-up comedians, local rock’n’roll and whatever other trouble seems appropriate at the time. The films are the excuse; the gathering is the real event.
Think Berlin madness transported to Athens, put under the Greek moon, shaken violently and served cold.
Come for the movies. Stay for the music. Question your life choices somewhere around midnight.
WIPE Athens. Stay Amateur.
About WIPE Berlin Amateur Film Festival
A Cinematic event, an event like no other. This unique gathering of amateur artists, conmen, and freaks who meet up before they’re too famous or fabulous to partake in this event.
WIPE takes the typical cheap-ass underground film festival on a spin. The festival space is not a cinema hall but an open space, where different moments follow one another and sometimes merge like milk and cookies on X-mass Eve or Hannukah or whatever, you catch our drift… from screenings to music performances, stand-up comedy and, of course, a bar that allows the audience to connect before, during, and after the screenings. This little island makes everything even more tolerable. The whole shebang is just an excuse to create a complexity of elements going on since 2016. Each and every year is memorable for at least someone. Maybe this year, it will be you. The movies are usually sincere. They haven’t been tainted by greedy producers, film critiques, rejections, and mold. It is the best way to start or end your career, or you can simply pass by and compare a Philipino Horror short to Godard’s earliest stuff while drinking some exotic cocktails concocted by a midget wearing a rental tuxedo or the guy next door.
